The Human Rights Education Center of Utah (HREC) provides empathy and bullying prevention education for people of all ages and backgrounds.
HREC believes that education is unique in its ability to transform ignorance into respect and intolerance, bullying, exclusion, disrespect and violence are preventable behaviors.
We are excited to introduce our new bullying prevention program:
Based on more than 11 years of classroom teaching and innovative art-based programming, HREC focuses on essential competencies—empathy, respect and social inclusion. Some examples of our art-based bullying prevention programming are The NO-Bully Beat program on the DrumBus, Puppet Theater for children, PlayBack Improvisational Theater for teens and young adults in addition to live theater productions concerning the causes and consequences of bullying behaviors.
In addition to our work with youth and their leaders, we provide training and facilitation of dialogues across divides for a variety of organizations including educational institutions, health care providers, churches, non-profit organizations and private businesses.
Prejudice is born in ignorance. Equality is born in education.
Please read a special note from our Executive Director about recent tragedies
Diversity Management: Tyler Clementi Case Sentencing Offers Lesson in Preventing Bias Tragedies
Diversity management is vital to preventing more tragedies like the suicide of Tyler Clementi. Today’s sentencing of Dharun Ravi—30 days of jail time, three years of probation, a $10,000 fine plus extensive counseling—is the final chapter in a very tragic story.
What are YOU willing to do to STOP bullying? What if a child’s life might be in danger? Imagine that was your child, grandchild, niece, nephew or close friend. YOU can help us STOP bullying in its tracks.
Bullying has become an epidemic in our communities and it needs to STOP now! There has been a dramatic rise in web and social media harassment in addition to the physical and emotional bullying that countless youth suffer from both in and out of school. Studies have shown many youth increasingly feel the only option to get away from the bullying is by hurting themselves and/or others. We must understand that bullying affects not only the children involved, but the surrounding community as well.
Bullying can be STOPPED with increased education!
Through this program we will expand our efforts on what we do best: bullying prevention education. We are asking YOU to consider making a $50 donation to help us reach more children in Utah with our bullying prevention programming. A single $50 gift will pay for one hour of classroom instruction, which in turn will educate 30 students and open their eyes to the consequences of bullying. If you cannot make a donation at this level, please consider giving any amount because no gift is too large or too small!
If YOU knew your child was being bullied what would you do to make it STOP? Please take just a few minutes to make your donation online at www.hrecutah.org/give.
Once again we wish to THANK YOU for your time and continued support for this vital program. Together we can STOP bullying in Utah communities!
