HREC teaches character education, non-violent conflict resolution and empathy education to youth in custody of the Department of Corrections. This program promotes the development of appropriate peer interactions and behaviors designed to initiate and maintain respectful and healthy social relationships. This program is often taught in conjunction with Teaching Tolerance through the Arts. In 2011, HREC is teaching in the West Valley City, Project 180 Program.
“The student reaction to the workshops of HREC was overwhelmingly positive. It was perhaps the first time (these incarcerated youth) they have looked at their own biases or had made the connection between bias, hatred and violence. I wish this training could be incorporated in all curricula. but until then, HREC has a vital role to play. I highly recommend their services.”
