The Golden Rule Project has started a petition/pledge to strive to incorporate the Golden Rule into our daily lives. They are partnering on this petition with the Charter for Compassion, the Parliament of World Religions, Arizona Interfaith Movement, Scarboro Missions, Peace Jam, the Wisdom Circle, and others around the planet that would like to join. The Human Rights Education Center of Utah has also joined in support of this cause.
This is the text of the petition:
Golden Rule Project Petition
All Life strives to incorporate the principle of the Golden Rule. Directing our attention toward understanding this most basic principle gives us a reasonable, compassionate and common sense direction in anything we do. Remembering and putting the Golden Rule to use each day in our own lives transforms our relationship with our selves, with others, and with our shared environment, the planet Earth.
An invitation to All:
1st—Strive and Incorporate: strive to understand the meaning of the Golden Rule for myself and how I wish to incorporate it in my life, recognizing that this effort is sometimes hard and yet always helpful.
2nd—Invite and Request: invite/petition/request those who represent me to do the same: live by the Golden Rule. My representatives will change the world for the better when they apply it within their organizations, such as in any of the religious traditions, teachings and in communities; environmental, civic, economic, educational, political, or social entities.
3rd—Stand in Unity: unite with others on this planet who wish to take real responsibility toward compassion and fairness; and to build an understanding with my neighbors about what is to be done in each new situation based upon the principle of the Golden Rule. Simply stated:
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
Respect for All Life is the foundation.
—The Great Law of Peace, Iroquois Confederacy
First effort: I strive to understand the meaning of the Golden Rule and incorporate it in my life each day, recognizing that this is difficult but possible.
Second effort: I will petition those who represent me to do the same.
Third effort: Unite with others who represent a striving toward compassion, fairness and respect for our planet Earth.

Why we need this Golden Rule Petition
We can use the knowledge and truth of the Golden Rule together – all over the planet.
The Golden Rule petition emphasizes that the unifying principle of the Golden Rule lives within all individuals, organizations and groups who serve the world in many different ways. The petition began with a vision from the founders of the GoldenRuleProject.org and it is finding support among partners worldwide.
The petition belongs to everyone. It serves a common and planetary good. As the number of signatures grows, the petition naturally gains strength, and our tool to demonstrate the importance of this principle grows deeper and more powerful. Who knows what we can do with 1 million signatures.
Right now, we can use the petition to send the message to ourselves and to our representatives that living by this universal principle is vital for our needs as human beings and as a planet. The Golden Rule is the most common of all principles among us and in supporting this petition we widen the influence of good around the world. We invite ALL to join us in walking this common path.
